FC Barcelona have been focusing their energies in the last few months on ensuring the long-term continuity of some of the most important players in their squad, and have successfully completed the renewal operations of important players like Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, and Pau Cubarsi.

Two more players whose future they wanted to secure in the coming few months were Robert Lewandowski and Inigo Martinez, who both have clauses in their contracts that will give them an automatic extension if they played a certain number of games.

In the case of the Basque defender, the Blaugranes have been looking to extend his contract even before he plays the stipulated number of games for an automatic extension. But previously, they did not have the required FFP space.

However, things changed with the sale of Vitor Roque to Palmeiras at the end of the last month, which brought €25.5 million to the Catalan side’s coffers in terms of fixed fee.

With this sale, there was enough FFP margin for Barcelona to extend Martinez’s contract, and the Blaugrana club had already approached La Liga to register the defender till 2026 with his new contract.

According to Mundo Deportivo, it was yesterday, on Wednesday, when the league authority confirmed the legal registration of the centre-back for the entirety of the next season. Undoubtedly, this news was a cause for celebration for both the club and the player.

With this development, all the Barcelona players are now registered with La Liga for the entirety of their contracts. Thus, none of them will have to remain concerned about being deregistered in the middle of a season or at the start of the next season.

Martinez himself had experienced such a situation last summer, as he was registered only till June 2024 when he arrived. Similarly, Dani Olmo also had to go through such an undesirable experience, as he was unable to play the first two games after his arrival, and was registered only after Andreas Christensen’s injury.
