Lacasse nets injury time equaliser as Manchester United and Arsenal share spoils | OneFootball

Cloé Lacasse came off the bench to score an injury time equaliser for Arsenal as they played out a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the Leigh Sports Village this evening.

Stina Blackstenius fired Arsenal into a 14th-minute lead before Sabrina D’Angelo’s error gifted an equaliser to Leah Galton. Both sides went in search of a winner in the second half and Manchester United substitute Melvine Malard fired her side in front with nine minutes to go. There was to be a late twist though with Lacasse netting an equaliser from 20 yards in the third minute of injury time.

Arsenal took the lead with the first real chance of the game. Steph Catley played a lovely ball through to Blackstenius and she guided her shot into the far corner of the Manchester United net.

The Gunners’ lead didn’t last long. Goalkeeper D’Angelo came out to make a clearance but her air kick handed Galton the opportunity to tap the ball into an open goal.

Arsenal looked the more likely to take the lead in the second half. Former Manchester United forward Alessia Russo forced a good save from Mary Earps before the same player curled a shot against the far post.

Manchester United were then presented with an opportunity of their own at the other end. Arsenal defender Amanda Ilestedt hesitated in making a clearance and substitute Malard got her toes to the ball to guide it home.

Frida Maanum had the ball in the back of the net two minutes from time but the goal was ruled out for offside before Lacasse’s long range rocket rescued a share of the spoils for Arsenal.

Manchester United have now collected four points from their opening two Barclays Women’s Super League matches while Arsenal have their first point on the board.
