Lazio are reportedly following the Paris Saint-Germain defender Milan Skriniar who is currently on loan at Fenerbahce.

The Background

The Slovakian centre-back made a name for himself in Serie A during his time at Sampdoria between January 2016 and June 2017, which earned him a big move to Inter Milan. After spending six largely successful years at Appiano Gentile, the 30-year-old signed for PSG on a free transfer.

Struggles in Paris

However, the centre-back’s first 18 months at Le Parc des Princes have been plagued by injuries. This season, he became an afterthought in Luis Enrique’s plans, only making five appearances in Ligue 1, prompting a loan move to Fenerbahce in January.

While he’s been finding much more space at Jose Mourinho’s court, Skriniar’s future remains shrouded in mystery. He’s expected to return to Paris in the summer, but only to find himself a new club, as the Ligue 1 champions are looking to sell him for good.

Lazio Following Milan Skriniar

According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Lazio is one of three Italian clubs interested in signing Skriniar. The source also notes Sampdoria’s desire to bring the defender back to the club, albeit this will be a challenging task given their ongoing Serie B struggles. Nevertheless, he could still return to the Luigi Ferraris through the gates of Genoa who are equally keen.

Lazio could do with some defensive reinforcement in the summer, as Patric’s injuries have been impeding his career, while Samuel Gigot hasn’t entirely convinced. Moreover, Mario Gila could be sold if a top European suitor places an enticing bid on the table.

Nevertheless, the management would probably prefer a younger profile than Skriniar, who is 30 and has a concerning injury record, while his hefty wages could pose another significant obstacle.
