In addition to their well-documented interest in Cesare Casadei, Lazio are also keeping tabs on another Chelsea player in the shape of Renato Veiga.
The Biancocelesti could be in the market for a new defender as Patric is out with an ankle injury which may require surgical intervention. In this case, the Spanish veteran would be out for a long time, possibly until the end of the season. In this season, Marco Baroni would be left with only three available centre-backs while the club is fighting on three fronts.
So according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio have entered the fray for Veiga, posing a challenge for their Serie A rivals Juventus who have identified the 21-year-old as one of the main candidates to replace the injured Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal as well as departing club captain Danilo.
The source claims Chelsea are asking for €5-6 million just for the loan fee, a request that halted Juve’s onslaught. In the meantime, the Biancocelesti are trying to overtake the Bianconeri by sealing a permanent move, offering the West Londoners €12 million in addition to a %50 sell-on fee. Nevertheless, the Blues are holding out for €25 million.
Veiga is a Sporting CP youth product who rose to fame last season with FC Basel, prompting Chelsea to splash €14 for his services. The Portuguese has thus far made seven appearances in the Premier League, but only one as a starter. While he’s originally a centre-back, Enzo Maresca has been deploying him at left-back this term.
