Josep Martinez played his first minutes for Inter: his official Inter debut came in the Coppa Italia Last 16 against against Udinese. A 2-0 win, a clean sheet and a super save at the end of the game to deny Touré and secure the win. Martinez came from Genoa in the summer and is the sixth Spaniard to play for Inter: after Luis Suarez, Joaquim Peirò, Francisco Farinos, Martin Montoya and Borja Valero.

He is the first Spanish Goalkeeper in Inter history, but still had a fellow compatriot predecessor: Farinos defended the Inter goal in the match between Valencia and Inter in the UEFA Cup of 2002.
