Rafael Leao believes that AC Milan’s 6-1 win over Sassuolo was a statement of intent, while he also insisted there is a good atmosphere within the squad.
Paulo Fonseca made eight changes to the starting line-up from the team that beat Empoli, but what we saw were a number of players who seemingly wanted to prove a point.
Milan scored four times inside 11 first-half minutes as Samuel Chukwueze opened the scoring, Tijjani Reijnders scored a missile to make it 2-0, Chukwueze netted again and then Rafael Leao got in on the act.
Leao got his goal in the 23rd minute when Loftus-Cheek turned provider this time for what was a goal very similar to the equaliser against Lazio earlier in the season. The winger made a run to the right side of the box and fired a fierce low shot.
The Portuguese spoke to Italia 1 after the full-time whistle to talk about a job well done in front of the home fans and a place in the final eight of the competition secured. MilanNews published his words.
Today we saw Leao in form and full of confidence…
“I think everyone played a great game, we were aggressive. We set goals for this season, in this game we showed what we want to do.”
It felt like you were always involved, even when you started games from the bench…
“It’s important. The team is doing well, it’s important to have this family atmosphere among us.”
What are your goals?
“We have to think game by game. There’s an important game on Friday, they’re a tough team. We want to win and move up the table.”
