FC Barcelona could get only a 1-1 draw as they host Real Betis in their last La Liga game. While the two dropped points would definitely be an annoyance for the fans, Hansi Flick was quite clear that this game only meant one game less to play in La Liga and another point gained over second-placed Real Madrid.
Although the team as a whole could have put on a significantly better display, there were still several players who played at a very high level in this game.
One such player was the midfielder Gavi, who started this game after missing out the match against Atletico Madrid due to a knee discomfort. Against Betis, he scored the only goal for his side in the first half.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the youngster also talked to the media after the game, and despite his own good performance, expressed a lack of satisfaction with the result:
“With a win we would’ve moved further up, but in the end it’s football and we had chances that we didn’t know how to take. We’re leaving with a draw that leaves a bitter taste.”
The Barcelona midfielder also expressed his disappointment with the way Real Betis scored their goal:
“Absolutely, we knew it. We’d been very solid on set pieces all season, and today they scored from one that I think could’ve been avoided. These things happen, and we have to improve on that.”
Gavi refused to comment on the referee’s performance on the night:
“At the end of the day, those are the referee’s decisions, and we can’t get involved. Whatever they call, that’s how it will be.”
Lastly, the young midfielder also clarified that he is satisfied with the confidence Hansi Flick is showing in him:
“I know the confidence that the coach and my teammates have in me. What people say doesn’t matter to me, and I feel very confident in the team. I am very happy.”
Gavi was one of the most impressive players for Barcelona on the pitch last night, and despite the draw, this would be another positive that Hansi Flick can take from this game. Hopefully, he will put in such performances in the weeks to come, especially as Dani Olmo is out with an injury for a few weeks.
