Leeds United star and former Real Betis defender Junior Firpo has this weekened opened up on his hopes of securing a return to the latter this summer.
Left-back Firpo is for his part in the midst of a fine individual campaign.
En route to Leeds booking their spot back in the Premier League for next season, the Dominican international has racked up 31 Championship appearances.
And along the way, Firpo has chipped in with a head-turning haul of four goals and a hefty nine assists.
The 28-year-old’s future beyond the summer, though, remains far from certain.
Firpo is due to see his contract terms with Leeds expire upon the close of the campaign, with the parties yet to reach an agreement regarding a renewal.
And if the latest comments laid out by the ex-Barcelona man are anything to go by, it would appear that his head, or rather heart, is far from Elland Road.
Speaking during an interview with Marca, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, this weekend, Firpo was not at all hesitant in revealing his hopes of sealing a move back to La Liga, with Real Betis:
“Returning to Spain, well… Especially returning to Betis. It’s an option I always have open. I’ve never hidden it. If I tell you that I’ve found it like a home here in Leeds, I’m telling you that Betis is my home. I’m a Betis fan, everyone knows that, and it’s in my blood.”
