According to Football Insider, the Foxes are considering an approach for the 53-year-old as a possible replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman has only been in charge since November, but has overseen their relegation to the Championship, with five games still to play in the campaign.

Leicester won the second division title last year under Enzo Maresca, but have lasted just one year back in the Premier League.

It has been reported that Leicester are readying an offer to Dyche to convince him to return to management in the Championship.

The Englishman is currently out of work after departing Everton earlier in the season, with the team hovering above the bottom three in the table.

Dyche has experience in the second tier, twice winning automatic promotion during his 10-year stint with Burnley, while also maintaining their position in the top flight for several campaigns.

He has earned a strong reputation within the game for being a top flight level coach, and his similarities to ex-Leicester manager Nigel Pearson are understood to be admired by the decision-makers at the King Power Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether he will be interested in the position, with Rob Dorsett reporting earlier this week that the likes of Danny Rohl, Lee Carsley and Russell Martin have also been shortlisted as candidates.

It is expected that Van Nistelrooy will depart the club at the end of the season.

Leicester’s relegation confirmed

Leicester had their place in the relegation zone confirmed last Sunday with a 1-0 loss at home to Liverpool.

This was their eighth home fixture in a row without even scoring a goal, with the team struggling for form under Van Nistelrooy.

The Foxes have five games remaining, but planning will already be underway for life back in the Championship.

Next up for Leicester is a trip to face Wolves on 26 April.

Dyche appointment would be an excellent step forward

Dyche is a proven Premier League calibre coach who knows how to make short work of getting promoted from the Championship.

While his style of play has its detractors, his vision for the team might be their best path forward to re-establishing themselves in the top flight long-term.

The 53-year-old worked wonders with limited resources at Burnley, and may have to rely on that skillset again if financial issues are going to hamper Leicester this summer.

His strong personality may also be what’s needed behind the scenes, and for the fans who are in desperate need of someone to get behind at the moment.
