Ligue 1 main broadcaster DAZN only paid half of the domestic TV rights money Ligue 1 clubs were owed this month, according to L’Equipe. Another TV rights crisis for French football looks more and more likely by the hour as the relationship between LFP – Ligue 1’s governing body – and DAZN feels broken beyond repair. As reported by RMC Sport on Tuesday, an emergency meeting between Ligue 1 clubs’ presidents is scheduled tonight with the situation deemed “urgent“.
L’Equipe understands that DAZN have grown tired of LFP’s perceived lack of results in the fight against piracy. What’s more, DAZN are reportedly angry at Ligue 1 clubs for their limited help in giving the broadcaster editorial content. In consequence, DAZN only paid €35m of TV rights money to Ligue 1 clubs this February when €70m were expected. The outlet adds that the other €35m have been frozen by DAZN.
LFP have rejected DAZN’s allegations and have filed a court summons for the broadcaster to pay its TV rights money share in full, according to AFP.
