Liga F round up: Real Madrid see off Levante, Madrid CFF edge out Athletic Club | OneFootball

Real Madrid tightened their grip on second spot in with a 4-2 win in Saturday’s away clash with Levante. Elsewhere, Madrid CFF claimed a narrow 2-1 victory over Athletic Club to move into the top three of the Liga F table.

Barcelona may have not been in action, but there is still plenty of drama to round up from the seven matches that took place over the weekend.

Levante 2-4 Real Madrid

Levante established a narrow half-time lead against Real Madrid courtesy of Gabi Nunes’ fifth minute effort. The Brazilian produced a glancing header from Silvia Lloris’ inswinging cross to register her 10th goal of the season.

As the game reached the 66th minute, Claudia Zornoza thumped the ball into the roof of the net to pull her side level. Linda Caicedo then unleashed an unstoppable effort to completely turn the contest in Real Madrid’s favour. The Colombia international went on to grab her second of the match, before Maite Oroz slotted home Real Madrid’s fourth. Leire Baños thundered the ball in off the crossbar to give Levante a second goal to celebrate, but it could not stop the visitors from claiming all three points.

Granada 2-1 Costa Adeje Tenerife

Granada edged out Tenerife to boost their Liga F survival hopes. Carlota Suárez calmly rounded the goalkeeper to put Granada in front inside the opening 15 minutes. Tenerife swiftly hit back through Koko, who bundled the ball in from Raquel Peña Rodríguez’s delivery.

After going into the break on level terms, the Andalusian side restored their advantage in the early stages of the second period. Laura Pérez beat the onrushing Aline Reis to Laura Requena’s pass, before catching up with her touch to tap in from close range. The victory moves the hosts out of the bottom two and up to 12th place.

Sporting Club Huelva 0-1 Eibar

Eibar moved seven points clear of the drop zone with a narrow win over basement side Sporting Club Huelva. Laura Camino slotted the ball into the bottom corner to open the scoring in the 18th minute. Huelva were presented with a chance to level from the spot in the second period after Bárbara López was brought down in the box. However, Patrícia Hmírová saw her penalty well saved by María Miralles, who celebrated her third consecutive clean sheet.

Madrid CFF 2-1 Athletic Club

Madrid CFF took advantage of Levante’s defeat to climb into third position in Liga F with a narrow win over Athletic Club. The hosts established a narrow half-time lead courtesy of a Maite Zubieta own goal. The Basque side restored parity in the 67th minute when Sara Ortega picked out the bottom corner from Clara Pinedo’s neat cut-back.

However, there proved to be a dramatic ending, as Luany headed home from Camila Saez’s dangerous corner to net an 89th-minute winner. Athletic are now five points adrift of Madrid after suffering their first Liga F defeat since the start of February.

Atlético Madrid 5-1 Real Betis

Atlético Madrid produced a dominant performance in front of 11,269 fans at the Cívitas Metropolitano. Rasheedat Ajibade sent the ball across the face of the goal for Ludmila to tap home the opener. Ajibade then put her own name on the scoresheet, before Estefanía Banini found the net to give Atleti a three-goal cushion at the interval.

Rosa Márquez pulled a goal back just before the hour mark to give the visitors some semblance of hope. However, late goals from Sheila Guijarro and Lucía Moral ensured Atleti could celebrate a comfortable victory. While the hosts are just one point adrift of the top three, Betis have now dropped into the bottom two with six games left to play.

Villarreal 1-2 Sevilla

Sevilla came from behind to clinch all three points in Sunday’s away meeting with Villarreal. After playing out a goalless first half, Villarreal took the lead within three minutes of the restart. Kayla McKenna headed in from Francisca Lara’s cross to score for the third time in the last four matches. The home side’s lead lasted just two minutes before Inma Gabarro stroked the ball in from Toni Payne’s deep delivery. Rosa Otermín completed the Sevilla turnaround, dispatching a 73rd minute penalty to score her first goal of the season. The defeat leaves Villarreal sitting just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Valencia 3-0 Real Sociedad

Anita Marcos required just four minutes to send her downward header past an unmoved Elene Lete. After setting up Anita in the first period, Marina Martí repeated the feat in the second half, providing the cross for the 23-year-old to guide home. Asun Martínez added a third in the closing stages to round off a dominant performance from the hosts. Valencia are seven points clear of the drop zone, while Real Sociedad are three points better off in eighth position.
