Liverpool boss Arne Slot has insisted it might “take a while” for Ruben Amorim to succeed at Manchester United but he will eventually come good.

Slot also gave his verdict on United’s woes this season as the two eternal rivals prepare to clash on Sunday at Anfield.

United are currently in 14th place, with just four wins in 11 games since Amorim’s appointment as the replacement for Erik ten Hag.

Liverpool on the other hand, are enjoying a superb campaign and are currently at the summit of both the Premier League and Champions League standings.

Ahead of the meeting at Anfield, Slot was asked at his pre-match press conference whether he would rest any of his key players against a struggling United side.

The Dutch coach replied, “A strange question. No I don’t plan to. It’s a big game. For me, I said it before the first fixture and one more time, they have much better players than the league table shows.”

“It will take a while, maybe, for Ruben Amorim, but they will definitely go up, and they are much, much, much better than the league table shows.”

On whether he sympathises with Amorim amidst his difficult start to life at Old Trafford, Slot replied, “I think every manager sympathises with every other manager because we all know how much pressure this job brings.”

“That’s not different for him, or for me, or any other manager in the Premier League.”

“This is a job with a lot of pressure. This is also something we like otherwise we must not do this. As I said, he has done so well at Sporting.”

“I think he has a good squad of players as well so he will eventually bring the best out of them.”

Liverpool vs. United kicks off at 16:30 GMT.
