Liverpool are expected to bolster their squad in the summer window, and it is an open secret that they will look to sign a new left-back.

Arne Slot has Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas as two reliable left-back options, but doubts have surfaced over the Scotland international’s future after he made some costly errors this season.

While Tsimikas has done well, Slot has used Robertson regularly. The 31-year-old defender has made 27 appearances in the Premier League, six starts in the Champions League, and has started in all the big games.

If Liverpool are indeed looking to sign a new left-back, the Reds need to sell either of the two existing defenders. Jamie Carragher certainly feels that Liverpool should replace Robertson, but Slot may have other ideas.

Robertson has a contract at Anfield until 2026, and Slot appears to trust him more than Tsimikas. That is purely based on his quality.

What Andy Robertson has said about his Liverpool future

The Reds full-back feels that he still has plenty to offer to the club, and even if the Reds sign a new left-back, he is up for fresh challenge.

Liverpool fans will be excited to find that Robertson still has got hunger and desire to play for Liverpool and fight for his place. No one can doubt his quality, and possibly a strong pre-season will help him regain his best form next season.

Robertson said: “I think we’ve been linked with pretty much every left-back in the world! But listen, that comes with playing for one of the greatest clubs in the world.

“I look back on the eight years I’ve had at Liverpool and think I’ve been the starting left-back at the club. I feel a lot of pride about that.

“Eventually, your time comes. But I don’t think it’s my time yet. Even if we do bring someone else in, so be it. I’ll always back myself.”

Should Liverpool keep or sell Robertson?

Liverpool will need to pay a handsome fee to get his signature. Given the strong connection Richard Hughes has with his former club, Liverpool have a better chance of luring him away than other potential rivals.

Tsimikas is very popular among the fans, and he is more than happy to play the second fiddle role. However, Robertson, despite his mistakes this season, is a leader on the pitch, and he brings energy, experience and quality.

Moreover, the Reds can sell Tsimikas for a decent transfer fee as he has a contract at the club until 2027. Liverpool will have a better squad depth with Robertson in the side, even if he is not the first-choice next season.
