Sometimes the results do not fall the way that they can. Leicester fell at home to Liverpool by a final score of 1-0. If, however, this had been the type of performance and effort City fans had seen throughout the Premier League campaign, there wouldn't have been the consistent uproar demanding changes.
In front of the King Power faithful, with the mathematical possibility of being able to fight relegation, the Foxes put up an overall better effort than past matches that ended up leading to this point. It's a major hypothetical right now, but if Ruud van Nistelrooy's side had shown this type of display and level of care more consistently, then they'd at least be in the realistic hunt to stay afloat in the EPL.
Ultimately, it took a scrum that resulted in a left-footed shot from Trent Alexander-Arnold to give the Reds the breakthrough. Granted, Arne Slot's men comfortably had majority possession and were unlucky not to score on multiple occasions. That was to be expected entering the day, though. LCFC made life difficult for the visitors and nearly put one past Alisson Becker themselves.
More importantly, they showed a competitive fight and ability to show something going forward in the spare moments that they were able to win the ball back. It's unknown what will happen to the club moving forward. Whoever ends up staying, in whichever capacity, will need to ensure that those on the pitch at all times show an effort worthy of the Leicester badge.
RvN stayed defensive, but it was nice to see his utilization of a back four again. Switching from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-4-2 at times showed the manager's ability to make adjustments with some success. It also allowed for the team to look more promising with the ball and not be exclusively focused on attempting to preserve a clean sheet.
Even if the win-loss record had been identical, the type of fight and willingness to go for three points on display was a more admirable effort compared to what the product had been throughout the 2024-2025 season. Now looking to navigate what is likely to be a difficult future, this last performance was one that this corps can look back on with pride.
