Liverpool are set to agree on a loan move deal to Napoli for Italian winger Federico Chiesa (27), according to a report this Saturday from Foot Mercato. The 27-year-old Euro 2020 winner has found playing time increasingly limited on Merseyside. Chiesa only featured four times with Arne Slot’s high-flying Reds, including twice in the Carabao Cup. The outlet reports that Napoli have opened concrete talks with the Premier League side and the player’s agent to secure a six-month loan move for the son of Enrico Chiesa.
Foot Mercato previously reported Chiesa eyed a return to Italy to kickstart his career back in action with Italy manager Luciano Spalletti promising him a return to the national team set-up, should he regain confidence and minutes under his belt. The outlet adds that negotiations took place with Liverpool, with which Chiesa is under contract until 2028, regarding his €7,5m yearly wages. The Reds would cover part of his salary. Napoli are reportedly close to submitting a first offer to Liverpool but the Premier League leaders have reportedly greenlit a loan move in principle for their No. 14. Napoli manager Antonio Conte has also agreed on the move.
The outlet understands that the two sticking points may be the player’s wages and Napoli’s desire to include an option to make the move permanent, something Liverpool are reportedly reluctant to agree.
