According to L’Équipe Lille are set to sign Toulouse centre-back Bafodé Diakité (21) in a deal worth up to €3m plus add-ons on a long term 4-year contract – the defender’s current contract is set expire next year.
The former France U19 international comes from the Toulouse academy, and already has 84 matches at the professional level under his belt at the age of 21. He can play any position across the backline with a versatility that has attracted Les Dogues to the player, who comes in as defensive cover for Paulo Fonseca’s side.
Diakite has experience both in Ligue 1 and in Ligue 2 – having made 25 appearances in the former, and 46 in the latter, scoring a total of 7 goals in his impressive early career for Les Violets.
Lille’s transfer window is starting to pick up again, after it looks certain that midfielder Renato Sanches will make a move to last season’s Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain to link-up with former boss Christophe Galtier.
