Manchester City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain has expressed his delight at the club’s capture of Omar Marmoush.
City have completed the signing of the forward from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee in the region of €70m (£59m).
Marmoush arrives at the Etihad after a stunning start to the season in Germany, where he has scored 20 goals and laid on 14 assists in 26 appearances.
His explosive output has persuaded City to spend bid on the 25-year-old, who becomes the club’s third signing of the January transfer window. City have already completed deals for defensive duo Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov.
Marmoush will wear the number seven shirt at City and bolsters Pep Guardiola’s forward line for the second half of the campaign. He has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Premier League champions.
Speaking at the player’s unveiling, Begiristain discussed the attributes Marmoush will bring to the City side. He hailed the forward’s ability to influence games and said the Egyptian has ‘all the attributes a top-class attacker requires’.
“Omar is an accomplished and exciting forward, and I’m delighted he’s joining us,” he said.
“He’s had an outstanding season, and every time we have watched him, he has influenced matches.
“He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset.
“I also have no doubt that working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him further develop his superb attacking talent.”
