Manchester United have reportedly opened a channel with the representative of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.
The Red Devils could well part ways with Marcus Rashford in the middle of the campaign as the situation has rapidly escalated over the past week or so, especially after being left out from the squad in the last three contests, not to mention the player’s statements over embarking on a new challenge.
Therefore, Ruben Amorim might need a new attacker come January, as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee do not seem to be his ideal choices for the role, especially the latter.
According to Sky Sport France journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Osimhen could be the solution the Red Devils are seeking.
The 25-year-old was one of the biggest attractions in Serie A over the past four years, but was keen to leave Napoli last summer after his fallout with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Chelsea were hoping to bring the Nigerian to West London, but failed to reach an agreement with the stubborn club patron.
So when the transfer market closed in the top European leagues, Osimhen ended up sealing a bizarre loan move to Galatasaray, just to avoid spending his campaign on the sidelines. And while he has been clinical in front of goal, the Turkish league doesn’t quite satisfy his big ambitions, so he’d likely jump on the opportunity to join the Red Devils, as playing in the Premier League remains a personal ‘dream’ for the player.
Moreover, Napoli have a clause that allows them to recall the player in January in case they were to find him a buyer. As the source explains, United have been in contact with the player’s agent, and the journalist believes that finding an agreement on personal terms shouldn’t be an issue for the club.
Nevertheless, meeting the demands of De Laurentiis remains the biggest obstacle for the Red Devils, as the club owner insists on pocketing the full value of the player’s release clause, which is €75 million. So it remains to be seen if the United officials can come up with a creative formula that receives the approval of the Italian film mogul.
