Manchester United are monitoring Fiorentina youngster Pietro Comuzzo who has been taking Serie A by storm with his powerful displays at the back.

The Red Devils have been doing their shopping in the Italian market in recent years. The likes of Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee were all purchased from various Serie A clubs. The same goes for the club’s most recent addition, Patrick Dorgu who sealed a January move from Lecce.

The Premier League giants are keen on extending this habit, as they’re reportedly following several profiles in Italy’s top flight, including Como’s teenage sensation Assane Diao and Udinese hitman Lorenzo Lucca.

According to CaughtOffside, United have also sent their scouts to watch Comuzzo in action. The 20-year-old is an Italian centre-back who climbed his way up the club’s ranks to become a first-team member in 2023 under the guidance of former manager Vincenzo Italiano.

This season, Viola head coach Raffaele Palladino confirmed the youngster as a regular starter. The rising defender has thus far made 33 appearances in all competitions, and his impressive displays have earned him a call-up for the Italian national team, albeit he’s yet to make his Azzurri bow.

The Italian press has described Comuzzo as a young veteran, noting how he plays with the confidence and the maturity of a 30-year-old. He has identified Liverpool stalwart Virgil van Dijk as his playing idol, alongside Juventus legend Leonardo Bonucci.

The Red Devils have already injected fresh blood into their backline by signing Leny Yoro last summer and Ayden Heaven in January, but with Ruben Amorim implementing a three-man backline, there is still room for new additions, esepcially with Johny Evans and Victor Lindelof expected to depart at the end of the season, and Lisandro Martinez potentially missing the first part of the next campaign through injury.

However, the source warns Man Utd of steep competition for the player’s services, as Tottenham, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all keeping tabs on the rising defender, while Napoli had already placed a bid worth €35 million, which proved insufficient.

Fiorentina are reportedly expecting a figure around €40-€45 million to part ways with their prized asset.
