Manchester United are being linked with a shock move to sign Nayef Aguerd from West Ham, amid an impressive loan spell at Real Sociedad.
Aguerd joined the Spanish side on loan last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at West Ham, following the signings of Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman.
The defender joined the Hammers from Rennes for a fee of £30m in 2022 but fell out of favour after an initial bright start at the London Stadium.
The Moroccan has since rediscovered his form in San Sebastien, where he has made 19 appearances in La Liga this season.
Aguerd ranks in the top eight percent of La Liga centre-backs for progressive carries, cross-field switches and aerial duels won per game in 2024/25.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are weighing up a potential summer move. Lisandro Martinez is facing a long spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury and the Red Devils lack a natural left-sided option for Ruben Amorim’s back three in his absence.
Aguerd’s past experience of the Premier League has made him a potential option, for a Manchester United side whose spending may be limited in the summer. However, West Ham manager Graham Potter is set to run the rule over Aguerd ahead of next season.
The 49-year-old, who replaced Julen Lopetegui in January, also believes the defender could impress in a back three. Meanwhile, Sociedad are keen to secure the 28-year-old’s signature on a permanent basis.
