Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
United’s goalkeeping department may undergo a major shake-up this summer, with growing uncertainty surrounding Andre Onana following a series of error-prone displays that have left plenty to be desired.
United are believed to be open to parting ways with the Cameroonian, who has been mentioned to be on the radar of the Saudi Pro League.
Bayindir, Onana’s understudy, could also be on his way out this summer. The Turkey international missed his chance to impress when Ruben Amorim handed him a rare start in the 4-1 loss to Newcastle. Bayindir conceded four goals from six shots on target and was at fault for the Magpies’ fourth, capping a disappointing outing at St James’ Park.
There have also been suggestions that Bayindir is eager for more regular first-team minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Combine that with the expected departure, and possible retirement, of veteran Tom Heaton, and it’s clear why a significant reshuffle in the club’s goalkeeping department is looming.
United have been linked to a host of shot-stoppers including Lucas Chevalier (Lille), Senne Lammens (Royal Antwerp), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), James Trafford (Burnley) and Bart Verbruggen (Brighton).
Now, talkSPORT reveal that the Red Devils are looking at another Brighton goalkeeper – Carl Rushworth.
“Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is amongst the options being explored by Manchester United, talkSPORT understands.”
“Brighton value Rushworth in excess of £5million, and the 23-year-old is expected to push for a move after finding his route to the first team blocked by the form of Bart Verbruggen.”
talkSPORT add that West Ham are also keeping tabs on Rushworth. The 23-year-old believes he is ready to play in the Premier League.
Rushworth returned to the Amex from a loan stint at Hull City midway through the season and is likely to get a transfer this summer.
