Marco John is set to leave Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim after almost 12 years and move to second-division outfit SpVgg Greuther Fürth. John's contract in the Kraichgau was set to run until 30 June 2025.
"Marco John fought his way back from a cruciate ligament tear in impressive fashion last season and has also made a consistently positive impression in training sessions on a daily basis. However, we came to the conclusion in very trusting talks together that Marco needs more game time, which we cannot currently guarantee him. For this reason, we have now granted him permission to move to Greuther Fürth and are convinced that we have found an optimal solution for all parties involved, as he has already had very good experiences in Fürth in the past," explained Andreas Schicker, TSG's Managing Director of Sport.
Marco John joined the TSG Hoffenheim youth academy in July 2013 at the age of just 11 and progressed through all the youth ranks at the Kraichgau club to reach the professional ranks. John made 16 Bundesliga appearances for the TSG first team and featured in four Europa League matches (one assist) and one DFB-Pokal tie. In the autumn of 2021, he also made his debut for the Germany U21 national team in a European Championship qualifier in Latvia.
John moved to second-division club SpVgg Greuther Fürth – back then on loan – for the first time in August 2022 and was a regular starter for the Franconians during the 2022/2023 campaign. The left-back made 23 second-tier appearances for Fürth that season and set up three goals.
