There is a whole load of media hype surrounding Olympique de Marseille’s reported interest in Paul Pogba (31). The Frenchman will be free to resume his playing career in March 2025 after his four-year ban for doping was reduced to just 18 months. However, as things stands, he does not have a club to play for. That is in the wake of the mutual termination of his Juventus contract back in November.
Marseille have been heavily linked with a move for the free agent. Former teammate at club and international level, Adrien Rabiot, “invited” Pogba to join him at Marseille, whilst the topic has been broached by sporting director Medhi Benatia and president Pablo Longoria.
The latter said the following: “Currently there are no discussions,” began Longoria in a press conference on Wednesday. “There are no talks ongoing with Paul and still no decision. I am not closing the door because he is on the market but there is a whole load of news surrounding Paul. These are more speculation and dreams, rather than a reality,.”
However, RMC Sport understands that OM’s interest in Pogba is real, and that interest is reciprocal. Les Phocéens’ manager, Roberto De Zerbi, is the latest to address the rumours. “I would like to have only champions in my team. Pogba has always been a champion but honestly, during my discussions with staff, we have never spoken about it,” began the Italian in a press conference on Friday.
He added, “But if champions are arriving, we can try and find space for Paul Pogba.” Those comments will do little to dampen to incessant rumours.
