Olympique de Marseille’s Amine Gouiri has won the UNFP Player of the Month award for February. The Algerian was one of three nominees for the award and finished ahead of Paris Saint-Germain duo Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi.
Players in the French top flight chose the nominees. Despite netting an impressive nine goals and registering one assist in February, AS Monaco’s Mika Biereth was not even nominated for the award. He only finished sixth in the ranking – a point of contention given his record-breaking start to life in Ligue 1.
Following the fan vote, it was Marseille’s Gouiri, who joined the club from Stade Rennais during the January transfer window, who won the award. The 25-year-old Algerian has made a good impression since making the switch. He netted a brace against AS Saint-Étienne in February and also registered three assists in that time. Dembélé finished second in the ranking, with Hakimi third.
