Martin Odegaard is confident Arsenal have "another gear to hit" as they prepare to take on Manchester City in a hotly-anticipated Premier League clash.
Arsenal and City have been bitter title rivals for the past couple of seasons, with the latter coming out on top to continue their dominance of the division under Pep Guardiola.
But City's 2024/25 campaign has not gone to plan, culminating in a dreadful run of form - Guardiola's worst streak of his career - that has plummeted them to fourth in the Premier League table, 15 points behind leaders Liverpool.
Arsenal are second, nine points behind, and it will take something quite extraordinary for Mikel Arteta's side to close the gap to a Liverpool team that have barely missed a beat all season.
Odegaard remains bullish about Arsenal's chances, though, and is confident that there's more to come from a team who had shown great strength of character under Arteta's management.
"We’re in a good position and we have to remember that," Odegaard said. "But I feel like we have another gear to hit and it was the same last year. We really hit top form towards the end of the season. Hopefully we can do that again.
"When you’ve been so close, you get even more hungry, you get even more determination to do it, especially last year when we were there on the last day and really could feel it was that close. I feel the whole squad is ready now to push for it.
"I have been dreaming about this since I was a young kid. To win one of the big trophies and especially the Premier League was always something special growing up so this would be the biggest dream. It’s what we work for every day and I think it’s important to stay in the moment and not look too far ahead. Just focus on the day by day and keep going and in the end hopefully we will be rewarded."
Liverpool's 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday was their 17th win of the campaign. Mohamed Salah was the star once more, bagging his 20th and 21st goals of the Premier League season, and the pressure is now on Arsenal to extend their four-match unbeaten streak against City with a win.
