Valencia CF travelled to Majorca for some Friday Night Football on November 29th, facing Real Club Deportivo Mallorca at 9 PM at Son Moix on Matchday 15 of LaLiga EA Sports.
Valencia CF had a slow start to the game, attempting to play their typical brand of attacking football, while the home side looked to hit on the break during the early stages of the first half.
The game evened out around the quarter-hour mark, with both sides striving to dictate proceedings. Valencia CF's first chance fell to Diego López, who couldn’t quite steer his header on target halfway through the first half.
Just past the half-hour mark, Valencia CF were awarded a spot-kick when Javi Guerra's delivery struck Mojica's arm. After a VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot. Luis Rioja stepped up and dispatched the penalty with a powerful shot inside the left-hand post, beyond Grief, to put Valencia CF in front.
Valencia CF defended resolutely during the latter stages of the first half in this heavily contested Friday night encounter. However, Cyle Larin equalised on the stroke of half-time, much to Valencia CF’s dismay.
The first half concluded all square, leaving everything to play for in the second half.
The second stanza began similarly, with both sides trying to find a foothold in a tight game against an RCD Mallorca side that is notoriously difficult to break down. Chances were few and far between for either team.
Diego López came close with a header following a corner kick just before the hour mark. While the ball had plenty of power, it lacked placement to trouble the goalkeeper.
The match then entered a cagey spell, with both sides struggling to create meaningful chances.
Rubén Baraja made a like-for-like substitution, bringing on Germán and Pepelu for Javi Guerra and Luis Rioja to inject fresh energy.
Abdón Prats scored late in the game, scoring with a well-placed header to make it 2-1 to RCD Mallorca.
Valencia CF continued to push for an equalizer in the closing stages but ultimately fell to a narrow 2-1 away defeat.
Valencia CF will now turn their attention to Copa Del Rey action, as they face CD Ejea at Luchán on Wednesday, December 4th, at 9 pm kick-off.
