Vivianne Miedema scored a stoppage-time equaliser to salvage a point for Arsenal Women as their 100% record was ended by Tottenham Women in a pulsating north London derby at The Hive.
Scorers: Williams 65′; Miedema 90+1′.
Jonas Eidevall’s side were looking to make it seven wins out of seven going into the game and they will be wondering how they’ve lost their 100% record after dominating large majorities of this game.
The visitors hit the woodwork twice in the first half, with Tinja-Rikka Korpela first tipping Beth Mead’s free-kick on to the underside of the bar before the ball was scrambled clear.
Katie McCabe then produced a shot from the edge of the area just before half-time that clattered against the bar as the Gunners upped the pressure.
That pressure continued into the second half as Ashleigh Neville pulled off a stunning block to deny Vivianne Miedema from six yards out with the goal gaping.
And then came a sucker punch, as in the 65th minute Spurs took the lead against the run of play.
Kit Graham’s low shot was pushed back into the six yards for Rachel Williams to bundle home.
Spurs should’ve extended their lead moments later when Neville found herself at the right end this time but somehow conspired to fire the ball over from close range with an open goal waiting.
That miss proved to be costly as Arsenal earned a point in the dying moments as Miedema finally found a breakthrough, heading home from McCabe’s corner to keep the Gunners at the top of the table while Spurs remain in third.
