Newcastle United are about to offload Miguel Almiron for good.
That is according to Sky Sports, which has reported that Almiron is on the verge of joining Atlanta United from Newcastle in the January transfer window.
The Paraguay international, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has agreed personal terms with the Major League Soccer club.
Almiron has already said his goodbyes to the Newcastle squad at the training ground and will sign a four-year deal with Atlanta.
Sky Sports has reported Newcastle will receive an initial transfer fee of £8 million plus £3m in add-ons from Atlanta for Almiron.
This means that the Premier League club will make a loss of £13 million on Almiron, having paid £21 million for the Paraguayan star when they signed him from MLS side Atlanta in 2019 (Sky Sports).
Newcastle are not going to miss Almiron. While the Paraguayan has had some good games, he has not been very consistent for the Magpies.
The 30-year-old has made one start and eight substitute appearances in the Premier League and has made two starts and two substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup so far this campaign.
Almiron has played 223 matches in all competitions for Newcastle. He has scored 30 goals and given 12 assists in those games.
The Paraguayan is a peripheral figure in the Newcastle squad, and the Magpies will not miss him much.
Newcastle are fifth in the Premier League table at the moment with 41 points from 23 matches.
Eddie Howe’s side are level on points with fourth-placed and defending champions Manchester City.
The Magpies beat Southampton 3-1 away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League this past weekend.
Newcastle will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Fulham at St James’ Park in the league.
