Mikel Arteta walks out of interview over Premier League title race question

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta walked out of an interview following his side's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday after being asked about his side's Premier League title chances.

The Gunners now sit 15 points behind leaders Liverpool, having played one game fewer than their rivals, after a disjointed performance on Sunday saw them scrambling to even escape with a point at times.

After the match, Arteta spoke to Sky Sports about his side's struggles in front of goal. Asked whether he regretted not signing a striker, Arteta insisted "it is not about that" and began to walk away from the interview, before being pulled back for one more question.

“Mikel, one more?" reporter Patrick Davison asked. "I have to ask you about the title race because it's 15 points now..."

"No," a spiky Arteta responded. Davison then asked whether the 15-point gap is simply "too much", but Arteta continued to walk away, saying "thanks" as he departed.

Arteta then headed to his post-match press conference where, predictably, a similar question was asked. This time, however, the Arsenal boss was prepared to respond.

"I don't want to say [the race is over], but today the frustration is that we haven't won our game, we know the urgency and you're obligated to win every single match," Arteta said. “You won't have any chance of doing that, I don't think it's the right moment to talk about that."
