As if losing 3-0 to Champions League spot rivals Lens last weekend wasn’t enough, Monaco have now had to contend with internal tension ahead of the Ligue 1 run-in.
According to L’Équipe, Friday’s training session saw manager Philippe Clement and attacking midfielder Krépin Diatta clash in training, after the former had called on the Senegal international to track back.
The Belgian had criticised Diatta, with the latter feeling that he had been unjustly singled out. L’Équipe indicate that tensions then rose and the two men squared up before being separated before the situation could escalate any further.
The pair, who previously worked together for two years at Club Brugge, spoke again later on in the day, once the tension had died down, and the management now considers the issue to be resolved. Diatta reportedly has Clement’s backing despite his middling form this season – along with the rest of the team, the 24-year-old will be looking to bounce back from the performance in Lens, against Montpellier for tomorrow’s midday kick-off.
