Inter and Italy star Alessandro Bastoni is part of the most valuable XI in the world right now, joining the likes of Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham.
Bastoni is the only Italian and Serie A player included in Transfermarkt’s most valuable XI.
The Azzurri defender is the highest-valued centre-back on the specialised transfer website alongside Arsenal’s William Saliba.
Both players are valued at €80m and are part of a four-man defence which also includes Man City’s Josko Gvardiol and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Every other player in the most valuable XI in the world right now – fielded with a 4-2-3-1 formation – includes players from the Premier League or La Liga.
Ironically, Bastoni will soon face the most valuable right winger in the world, Lamine Yamal, in the Champions League semifinal between Inter and Barcelona.
Bastoni has one goal and five assists in 48 appearances across all competitions this season, but he’ll miss the next Serie A match against Roma, serving a one-match ban.
“I often lost focus as I didn’t have the same determination for 90 minutes. I’ve just turned 26 and I have room to grow, but in my first seasons at Inter, I wasn’t 100% ready in every aspect.
“The trait that makes me different is the ability to contribute in attack. I don’t know what the future defenders will look like, but I’m proud to be one of the first ones to change the role. That being said, I can defend too and being around guys like Skriniar, Acerbi, De Vrij, and Pavard helped me. The real change was in my head.”
