Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is preparing an ambitious move to sign Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son.
Mourinho worked with the South Korea international during his time in charge of the North London side and is keen on a reunion in Istanbul.
Fenerbahce are eight points behind Galatasaray in the title race and have seen their arch-rivals strengthened by the loan signing of Victor Osimhen from Napoli. Osimhen has 12 goals in 15 games since his shock arrival at the Süper Lig champions in the summer.
Fenerbahce are now determined to make a statement addition of their own and Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting Son is top of the wish list.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the campaign and free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides this month. However, Spurs possess an optional one-year extension in his deal.
Son has scored five goals and laid on six assists in 16 league appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season. However, Spurs have struggled for consistent results and sit 11th in the table, 11 points adrift of Champions League qualification.
A move to the Turkish Süper Lig would likely provide Son with a chance to play Champions League football next season, if Spurs fail to qualify. The Premier League side can also reach Europe’s elite with success in this season’s Europa League.
Son is Tottenham’s fifth-highest scorer of all time, having netted 169 goals in 420 appearances for the club since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
