Luis Muriel has thanked Atalanta fans after their touching farewell banner marked his transfer to Orlando City. ‘You will never stop surprising me.’
The Colombia international was a fan favourite and a regular on the scoresheet, even if he rarely made it into the starting XI in recent years.
He completed the €1m transfer to MLS side Orlando City and did not have the opportunity to say goodbye in Bergamo, so the fans held up a banner during last night’s 3-0 win over Sassuolo.
‘With your madness and style, you gave us such fun over these years. Thanks Lucho,’ read the banner.
Muriel posted an image of it on his Instagram account with a message of gratitude for the gesture.
“You will never stop surprising me, you move me and make me fall more in love with you, with Atalanta and all of Bergamo,” wrote the striker.
“We will see each other again soon, I want to hear you, I want to embrace you, I want to be there to say goodbye, just as I wanted to at the start.
“I love you and always Forza Atalanta!”
The club directors have assured there will be an opportunity for Muriel to salute the supporters in Bergamo before the end of the season.
Muriel is 32 years old and had been in Bergamo since 2019, when he became at the time their most expensive ever signing at €21.2m from Sevilla.
He scored 68 goals and provided 28 assists in 184 competitive appearances for La Dea.
