FC Nantes have reached an agreement on principle with Ligue 1 rivals over the signing of Matthis Abline (21), according to a report this Saturday from Ouest-France. The outlet understands that Les Canaris will shake hands with Les Rouget et Noir over a €12m deal, including bonuses worth €2m, for the arrival of the highly-rated centre-forward, who has become the club’s record signing. Matthis Abline will therefore reunite with Nantes after spending last season on loan at La Beaujoire.
Under the tutelage of Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré, Mathis Abline flourished, scoring four goals in the last two months of the Ligue 1 campaign. Nantes then pushed to trigger Abline’s €6m release clause but Rennes vetoed for the move, paying Nantes an extra €2m, as they hoped to make a larger profit on Mathis Abline. Rennes’ stance seems to have worked, as it forced Nantes to up the ante to lure their priority signing. L’Equipe understand that the Angers-born Mathis Abline will put pen to paper over a four-year deal with Nantes.
