Tottenham defender Ben Davies was in action for Wales on Saturday night and produced an outstanding performance.
Davies is one of the Spurs’ longest-serving players. The 31-year-old joined in the summer of 2014 and has been a consistent presence over the years.
Capable of playing as a left-back and centre-back, Davies has also earned rich praise from Ange Postecoglou.
The Spurs defender has made 93 appearances for his country and will soon reach the three-figure magical mark, which will be an outstanding achievement.
Wales made a strong start to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign after beating Kazakhstan 3-1 at Cardiff City Stadium.
Davies provided an assist for Daniel James’s opening goal and got his name on the scoresheet after the break to make it 2-1.
Substitute Rabbi Matondo swept in his first international goal in added time from Sorba Thomas’s pass to secure a comfortable (yet unconvincing) win in the end.
Wales Online praised Davies and described his header for the goal as “marvellous”.
The news media gave him an 8/10 rating and noted: “Solid as ever, and produced a marvellous header to put his side back in front.”
BBC Sport reported Davies’ goal: “Thankfully for them – and the blood pressure of the perpetually pacing, twitchy Bellamy on the touchline – Davies eased those nerves as he nodded into an empty net after Zarutskiy failed to gather Thomas’ corner.”
Davies has always been excellent for his country, and the latest performance will not come as any surprise to Tottenham or Wales fans.
Spurs have struggled badly with injuries this season, and at one point, Postecoglou ran out of options at the back.
Micky van de Ven, Christian Romero and Davies all picked up injuries, and Spurs were forced to use Archie Gray at centre-back alongside Radu Dragusin.
Heung-Min Son recently said that Davies works incredibly hard in training, and Postecoglou will be happy to find out that the defender has picked up the form.
Davies can play a big role in the final segment of the season as Tottenham look to end the campaign on a high by winning the Europa League.
