In a recent tweet, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg shared an update on Stefanos Tzimas’ future. Four Premier League clubs are keeping close tabs on the Greek ‘number 9’ with Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea and Aston Villa set to challenge Newcastle United to secure the services of the 19-year-old prodigy.
Born in Thessaloniki, Tzimas progressed through the academy ranks of PAOK before breaking into their senior side a couple of years back. He was a part of their 2023-24 Super League winning campaign with 3 goals in 16 appearances. While the youngster mostly featured as a substitute, a summer move to Germany helped him refine his poaching traits.
Tzimas completed a season-long loan to FC Nürnberg in the second tier of German football. There he has cemented a starting status and produced stellar numbers. With 8 goals and 2 assists in 14 league outings [stats via the Transfermarket], the teenage sensation is gaining serious attention from the world’s most celebrated football league.

Although the Bavaria-based outfit are plotting to make the move permanent for €18m, the growing demands from England could see them make a significant financial profit. According to Plettenberg, Nürnberg only intend to tie him down to pursue a direct sale in the summer window.
Newcastle United are enjoying a blistering run as they clinched five successive wins to climb up to fifth in the league standings. They are also going strong in the Cups and their Swedish striking ace Alexander Isak has just won the Premier League Player of the Month award.
Eddie Howe should still look to bolster them high up the pitch by roping in an understudy to the Magpies hitman. Callum Wilson has been there since 2020, however, persistent injury problems restrained his minutes for the club and the country. He has entered the final six months of his St James’ Park contract and it remains to be seen whether they trigger a clause to extend the Englishman’s stay for one more year.
Irrespective of Wilson’s future, Newcastle United should step up the chase for Tzimas in the coming days. The Greece U21 international would challenge and cover Isak week in, and week out, and Howe, known for nurturing young prospects with utmost care, is expected to hand him enough minutes to attune to the grind and demands of English football. The Greek forward, named one of the best players born in 2006 worldwide (by The Guardian), holds all the traits to emulate Isak’s success while spearheading the Geordies frontline.
