All eyes will be on Petershill Park tomorrow night (Friday, February 14) as the Ghirls take on Glasgow City in a top-of-the-table clash in the SWPL.
Both teams are tied on 50 points at the summit of the table, and Elena Sadiku’s side will be looking to break Glasgow City’s hearts on St Valentine’s Day as they aim to take three points and claim the top-spot in the table with 11 games left to play.
The Celts know that they will have to be at their best to overcome City, with the sides having met three times already this season. Across those three games, the Hoops have won one, drawn the other and lost out narrowly in a 3-2 defeat to Glasgow City in the Scottish Cup.
And ahead of tomorrow night’s match, Celtic striker Saoirse Noonan spoke to the media about how that defeat against Glasgow City in the cup has been a learning curve for the team as they prepare for Friday night’s huge league clash.
The striker, who has netted 27 goals so far this season also admitted that she is more interested in seeing the Celts succeed than counting her own stats for the season so far.
"At the end of the day my job is to score goals,” she said. “And we need the goals to win games.
“So, tomorrow night, hopefully I can get my name on the scoresheet.
‘But to be honest, I don’t care who scores as long as we win the game.’
“I think a lot of our frustrations from our last game against Glasgow City were that we didn’t play to our level and adapt quick enough.
“We’ve learned from that and it’s just unfortunate that we didn’t learn during the last game against them.
“But it’s definitely something we’ll take with us and move forward with going in to tomorrow.”
Noonan has made a positive impact since joining the Hoops in the summer and has settled in well to life in the green and white, with her goal tally of 27 strikes in 31 appearances proving that the forward has hit the ground running since joining the club.
And speaking about the demands of representing the Celts, Noonan said that the expectation to succeed comes from within the Hoops’ dressing room as she spoke about the mindset that exists within the squad.
She added: “We put pressure on ourselves more than listening to pressure from the outside. We know we’re expected to win most games, but we expect it from ourselves.
“This team has shown time and time again how we bounce back and how we react to situations that don’t go our way.
“We were sitting fifth in the table for a while there and people were asking questions. Within a few games we’re level at the top.
“We treat every game the same and our training is so competitive. That allows us to bring that energy in to the games.
“There are loads of games left to play, but we’ll take each game as it comes.”
