América’s third-choice goalkeeper Luis Zamudio has moved north of the border to North Texas SC.
North Texas – who are owned by MLS side Dallas FC – compete in USL League One, which is considered the third division of professional football in the United States.
The 21-year-old Mexican-American has signed a one-year deal, with an option to extend in 2021.
“We are bringing in a talented young goalkeeper that has impressed and been part of a Liga MX first team squad, which is no small feat,” said North Texas general manager Matt Denny.
“To bring in a player of this calibre is something we are really excited about and going to raise the water level to help us defend last season’s title.”
North Texas defeated South Carolina side Greenville Triumph 1-0 in the championship final last October.
The Texan outfit operate as a reserve team for Dallas FC.
Zamudio, who was born in Las Vegas, was part of América’s youth academy for four years before being promoted to the first team last July.
