Chelsea are reportedly waiting for a response after making a €55m bid for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Switzerland international has shone during his time in the Bundesliga and it makes sense that he could now earn himself a bigger move.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea have tried offering €55m for Kobel, though it is yet to be accepted, so it remains to be seen if a deal can be done.

Still, the Blues could do with a new goalkeeper next season after continued underwhelming displays from Robert Sanchez this term.

Kobel looks like he could be an upgrade on Sanchez, though Chelsea fans might be concerned about the club signing yet another new ‘keeper after so many poor decisions in that position in recent times.

Sanchez has proven a poor signing by CFC, while other big names like Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga also flopped at Stamford Bridge.

In the past, the west London giants had world class shot-stoppers like Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois, both of whom were key to the team’s success.

Kobel doesn’t necessarily stand out as someone who’s in that same category, but it seems Chelsea are really keen on him.

It will be interesting to see how this saga develops, but we’ve certainly seen Dortmund cash in on their star players in the past.

That could mean the opportunity is there for Chelsea to sign Kobel, who surely can’t be much worse than Sanchez has been.

The 27-year-old possibly looks a bit pricey, though, so this still seems like a deal that could be a bit of a gamble for Chelsea.
