Barcelona teenage wonderkid Toni Fernandez has officially become a footballer for Barça Atletic, the club confirmed this promotion on Friday.
The 16-year-old La Masia attacking midfielder has been fully integrated into the reserve team under Albert Sanchez since the start of the season and will now hold a spot in the squad.
The departures of Edu Sanchez and Unai Hernandez in the winter transfer window freed up space in the squad for Toni to be registered as a Barça Atletic player moving forward.
Having worn the No. 37 shirt since the start of the season, the youngster will now sport the No. 16 kit.
In this way, Toni follows in the footsteps of his cousin, Guille Fernandez, who has been part of the Barça Atletic squad since the start of the season, wearing the No. 20 shirt.
This season, Toni has played in eight matches for Barça Atletic, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The academy prodigy has also had appearances with the first team under Hansi Flick, notably making his official debut in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro, and is someone that the German tactician is closely following.
