1.FC Köln have announced that they have made their first signing since the ending of their transfer ban, with Jusuf Gazibegovic joining from Austrian champions Sturm Graz.
The full-back will officially join Köln on the 1st of January for a fee of €2m and according to Sky Germany with no extra add-ons, even if promotion is achieved at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old featured in all but one game for Sturm Graz as they toppled Red Bull Salzburg to become Austrian champions last season. Gazibegovic has also featured in the Champions League this season with Graz.
Köln lack depth in the right-back position especially since head coach Gerhard Struber switched to a three-at-the-back system. It has meant that forward by-trade Jan Thielmann has had to play as a right-wing back. The arrival of Gazibegovic should add much-needed numbers.
The Domstadt side had been under a two-window transfer ban following the signing of striker Jaka Potocnik. Now the ban is over they can add much-needed additions to the squad as they chase promotion back to the Bundesliga. The striker position looks like the next area that will be addressed as Köln has been linked to Union Berlin’s Ivan Prtajin.
