Angers have tonight announced the arrival of left-back Faouzi Ghoulam on a free transfer, the Algerian defender having been out of contract since his departure from Napoli at the end of last season.
The 31-year-old had been training with the Anjou outfit, and his return to Ligue 1 has now been made official after being offered a contract by the relegation strugglers. He had previously spent four seasons in the first team of formative club Saint-Étienne, making just under a century of appearances for Les Verts.
Le SCO will be hoping that Ghoulam’s experience will be of use as they look to avoid the drop – they currently sit rock bottom of the top flight and are on a 12-game losing streak, a joint record in the division, the most recent showing being a 4-0 defeat to Brest. The club have also announced the signing of forward Ibrahima Niane from Metz.
