Augsburg have announced the signing of Tim Breithaupt from Karlsruher SC for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of €2.5m.
Despite only being 21, Breithaupt has already appeared 63 times for Karlsruher since his debut for the club in 2021 against Würzburger Kickers. The defensive midfielder joins the Bavarian club on a long-term contract until 2028.
“It was my main aim to take the next step in my career this summer and I am absolutely convinced that FC Augsburg is the right place to do that. Conversations with management and with the head coach gives me a very good feeling heading into this coming season and I can hardly wait to finally get on the pitch and to get to know my new teammates,” said Tim Breithaupt.
“We are really pleased that despite a number of other offers Tim Breithaupt decided to move to Augsburg. In him, we are getting a defensively strong midfielder who is also strong in build-up and gives off an unbelievable calm when he is on the ball,” said Stefan Reuter, director for sport at FCA.
“Tim Breithaupt is already very mature for his age and has extremely high potential, so I am sure that he will get accustomed to the high level in the Bundesliga quickly and will provide our fans with a lot of joy,” concluded Reuter.
Last season, Breithaupt would feature 24 times for Karlsruher in all competitions where he would score two goals and collect one assist. However, the 21-year-old would not feature from matchday 23 onwards after suffering a fractured ankle that left him sidelined.
As for Augsburg, they have acted quickly and smartly so far this summer with Breithaupt becoming their fourth signing of the window. He is joined by former Union Berlin striker Sven Michel, Finn Dahmen (Mainz) and Patric Pfeiffer, who achieved promotion to the Bundesliga with Darmstadt last campaign.
