Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger will not play again this season after undergoing surgery to address a knee injury.
The 32-year-old German international was staring at a lengthy 4-12 game ban after his red card vs Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, meaning he would have likely ended up missing the remaining La Liga games.
As such, Rudiger and Real Madrid decided to make use of this and address the knee problem that has been holding him back for much of the season.
“Our player Antonio Rudiger underwent successful surgery today for a partial tear of the external meniscus in his left leg,” the statement from the club read.
“The operation was performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Rudiger’s will begin recovery soon.”
While the club statement does not provide a recovery period, Fabrizio Romano reports that Rudiger will be out for a period of almost two months.
It would mean that the defender will not be available for the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer and will only make it back towards the start of the 2025/26 season.
Wishing Rudiger a speedy recovery!
