Wolfsburg have announced that they have completed the signing of Sporting attacker Tiago Tomás on a permanent basis.
Tomás joins Wolfsburg for €8.8m and signs a contract at the club until 2028. The 21-year-old will take the number 11 shirt as well.
On why Wolfsburg signed Tomás, sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz said: “Tiago is still at the beginning of his career, he has great potential and can take the next step in his development in Wolfsburg. He benefits from the fact that he already knows the Bundesliga and has already gained experience with Sporting Lisbon on the international stage. We are looking forward to him and are convinced that his qualities will make our offensive game even more variable.”
The attacker is not unfamiliar with the Bundesliga. Tomás has spent the last year and a half on loan at VfB Stuttgart, who did not pursue a permanent deal due to the price of the 21-year-old. During his spell with VfB, Tomás played 47 times, scoring eight and assisting four.
However, most of these came in the first six months the 21-year-old spent at Stuttgart as he helped the club escape relegation. While in his only full season at the club, Tomás lacked the form he had done in his first six months as Stuttgart dropped into the relegation playoff.
For Wolfsburg, the signing of Tomás is their fourth of the summer. Previously the club have signed Mortiz Jenz, Vaclav Cerny and Cedric Zesiger.
