Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb has sustained a fresh injury blow in a difficult season on a personal note for the young Norwegian forward.
The 21-year-old was ruled out for the large majority of the ongoing campaign with a fractured leg bone sustained in Manchester City training in the week leading up to the start of the ongoing Premier League season.
After a stellar pre-season showing with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad in the United States, Bobb was in line for a start away to Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League season before an accidental injury was picked up in training.
Subsequent surgery and rehabilitation sidelined Oscar Bobb until the start of the new year and the versatile forward only resumed first-team training ground activities at the end of January, before suffering a minor ankle injury as a further setback.
Since recovering again, Bobb has returned to Pep Guardiola’s matchday squad and began to reintegrate himself into the group while impressing when called upon for brief cameo appearances by his manager.
But as Manchester City continue to face stern challenges to their pursuit of UEFA Champions League qualification for the next season, and with an FA Cup final in their sights, Oscar Bobb’s hopes of playing a significant part in the remainder of the campaign have taken a further hit.
As revealed by Norway national team manager Ståle Solbakken this week to national media outlet NRK, Manchester City’s highly-rated attacking talent has sustained a new, minor injury.
Solbakken told NRK, “He has suffered another minor injury. I don’t know anything about the time perspective, but it is not a serious injury.”
Additional reporting from MailSport’s Jack Gaughan has since confirmed that the Manchester City forward has sustained a hamstring injury, with the club hopeful of a return before the end of the regular Premier League season.
Manager Pep Guardiola will likely be relaxed about Bobb’s latest injury setback with his side stacked in the attacking department and largely comfortable with the options they have available to them.
Savinho and Jeremy Doku would likely be viewed as the direct replacements for Oscar Bobb in any scenario, while Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, and Omar Marmoush can all deputise in the wider roles.
Pep Guardiola’s next opportunity to speak to the media will come on Friday afternoon when he looks ahead to the weekend’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest.
