Alan Shearer wrote his name into Newcastle history on this day in 2006.

Jackie Milburn's record of 200 goals for the Toon seemed for decades like a number that would never be beaten.

But 18 years ago dreams became reality for Shearer as he reached 201 for his boyhood club.

It was a classic Shearer finish, bustling into the box and smartly finishing past Dean Kiely in the Portsmouth goal.

The English football great would eventually finish his career with 206 goals for Newcastle and 260 overall in the Premier League.
