As we near the end of 2024, it has been a whirlwind year for Vitor Roque. The striker made the big move to Barcelona, with the hopes of making a breakthrough at the highest level of football.

But after a disappointing spell in Catalunya, Roque ultimately had to settle for a loan move to Real Betis.

Roque has had a relatively better time at Betis. After a slow start, the forward has become a key attacking outlet under Manuel Pellegrini. He has scored six goals in all competitions this season, though Pellegrini and co are expecting more output from the Brazilian.

However, in a significant development, Roque’s performances appear to have alerted one of the biggest clubs in his homeland, Brazil.

According to UOL (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Palmeiras are interested in the services of Roque. The club have already contacted the forward over a potential move in the upcoming January transfer window.

This comes despite the fact Roque is still contracted to Real Betis via a loan agreement. In order to navigate this problem, Palmeiras are willing to cough up €20 million.

That being said, Real Betis do hold a purchase option for the player. Not to mention, the club also hold significant weight in terms of the player’s future, at least until the end of the season.

Therefore, in the event Barcelona do agree to Palmeiras’ €20 million plus bonus proposal, they must find an agreement with Real Betis over the termination of Roque’s loan contract.

This method could see Barcelona being forced pay up a certain fee for the loan termination. The entire operation, therefore, is quite a complicated one, as far as Barcelona are concerned.

Hence, the Catalans are unlikely to consider any deal unless Palmeiras come up with a significantly better proposal.
