After two more breathtaking quarter-finals, the World Cup takes a pause until the final four battle it out on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Here’s the best bits from Saturday’s action, plus everything you need to get that football fix today.
There may not be any World Cup action today, but there’s no need to miss out.
With a full day of action in the Women’s Super League, including the Manchester derby, there’s plenty to keep you going.
Can Man Utd keep pace with Chelsea at the top with a win over their cross-city rivals?
Morocco became pioneers as their win over Portugal made them the first African nation to have qualified for a World Cup semi-final.
Their resolute defending and tactical organisation has earned them a place in the semi-final where a clash with France awaits them, and their key man once again proved decisive as they pulled off another unlikely victory over a side that had won 6-1 in the previous round.
Sofyan Amrabat recovered the ball eight times, made three tackles, three clearances and created one scoring chance during his side’s 1-0 win, and Morocco will need him again on Wednesday as they take on the reigning champions.
With their win over England, France became the first tournament holders to reach the semi-final of the following World Cup since Brazil in 1998.
But the Three Lions had a golden chance to take that match to extra time when Harry Kane stepped up to take his second penalty of the night, and his record suggested that he was going to step up and score.
That ultimately wasn’t to be, but England do have a bright future ahead of them. At 19 years old, Jude Bellingham registered England’s most tackles at the tournament (16), won possession more than any other player in the side (31) and also completed the most take-ons with six.
It had to be Morocco’s against all odds qualification for the semi-final, knocking out one of the more traditional European giants in Portugal.
As part of their wild celebrations, Sofiane Boufal brought his mum down onto the pitch and danced with her. Watching her go to work at 6am when he was a child, Boufal said “she sacrificed her life for me. I had to turn pro for her.”
Today it’s all about the Manchester derby, and the player to watch is one of England’s heroes from the summer.
Alessia Russo scored a last-minute winner in a landmark 3-2 victory over Arsenal in November, and is the side’s top scorer with four goals in six games so far this season.
Can Russo be the difference maker in another huge clash today?
