Joao Felix is keen to return to former club Benfica this summer, although it’s likely to be a loan move according to reports.

The Blues paid £45m to sign Felix from Atletico Madrid last summer, with the 25-year-old penning a seven year contact at Stamford Bridge.

Thing didn’t go to plan for Felix over the first half of the season and he started just three Premier League games, whilst he was more of a regular in the cup competitions.

Felix keen on Benfica return

The Portugal international scored seven goals in the first half of the season for the Blues, despite playing second fiddle to Cole Palmer.

Felix surprisingly pushed for a January exit and eventually joined Italian giants AC Milan on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Life started well in Italy for Felix as he scored on his debut, but since then things have gone downhill, with Milan not wanting to sign him permanently.

Felix has been criticised for his performances and has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, whilst there’s also been talk of a return to Benfica.

Portuguese outlet Record have now added a further update stating Felix is eager to return to Benfica, but any deal would likely be a loan with Chelsea covering part of his salary.

Felix is currently due to return to Chelsea ahead of the Club World Cup, but it would seem unlikely he’ll play for the Blues again.

Benfica are also in the competition and it’s been reported they would want the attacker as part of their squad for the competition this summer.

The Felix signing has been a disaster for Chelsea and is one the club must learn from moving forward, with it looking very difficult for the Blues to recoup near the fee they paid Atletico last summer.
